Dems to fix FISA "fix"

Mon Aug 06, 2007 at 08:56:36 AM PDT

Less than an hour after the shameful vote on S.1927, Nancy Pelosi directed the House Judiciary and Intelligence Committees to "send to the House, as soon as possible after Congress reconvenes, legislation which responds comprehensively to the administration’s proposal while addressing the many deficiencies in S.1927."

Subscription-only CQ reports:

"Many provisions of this legislation are unacceptable, and although the bill has a six-month sunset clause, I do not believe the American people will want to wait that long before corrective action is taken," Pelosi, D-Calif., wrote to Judiciary Chairman John Conyers Jr., D-Mich., and Intelligence Chairman Silvestre Reyes, D-Texas.

For everyone who started to wonder whether having a Democratic Congress made any difference, this is a good start.

Now, let's do what we can to insist that they pas legislation quickly that fixes the White House's bill and restores our civil liberties.
